One of those principles is speed. Yes, UDP is considered the fastest method for data transfer \u2014 but that speed comes at a price. And that price is technical debt in the form of IT support, dropped packets, maintenance, and hours spent on staff training.<\/p>\n<p>MASV chose <a href=\"https:\/\/massive.io\/file-transfer\/what-is-transmission-control-protocol-tcp\/\">TCP<\/a> for good reasons:<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.14.7&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; text_font_size=&#8221;18px&#8221; text_line_height=&#8221;1.8em&#8221; header_2_text_color=&#8221;#444444&#8243; header_3_text_color=&#8221;#444444&#8243; custom_margin=&#8221;7%||||false|false&#8221; custom_margin_tablet=&#8221;10%||||false|false&#8221; custom_margin_phone=&#8221;15%||||false|false&#8221; custom_margin_last_edited=&#8221;on|phone&#8221; custom_padding=&#8221;|||2%|false|false&#8221; border_width_left=&#8221;5px&#8221; border_color_left=&#8221;#3d72e7&#8243; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h3>1. Fast is good, but you still have to cross the finish line.<\/h3>\n<p>To control congestion, networks intentionally drop packets. TCP detects congestion and adjusts to it so it can use network bandwidth as efficiently as possible. UDP has a reputation as a network bully.<\/h3>\n<p>Consequently, some network administrators block UDP traffic. TCP is easier for you (the end-user).<\/h3>\n<p>TCP solves complicated problems out-of-the-box. That lets MASV developers focus on more important things, like solving user\u2019s real problems versus troubleshooting.<\/p>\n<p>UDP-based file transfer services are more complex because they need to reinvent the wheel for reliability and throughput. Some <a href=\"https:\/\/massive.io\/alternatives\/signiant-vs-aspera\/\">UDP-based vendors<\/a> even require you to install their own UDP-optimized hardware in your network.
